PART 2: Pornography

Now let’s talk about PORNOGRAPHY PART 2:

The Definition of Pornography is sexually explicit videos, photographs, writings, or the like, whose purpose is to elicit sexual arousal. This applies to many TV shows and movies. If we watch shows   with sex scenes, regardless of the rating, we are watching porn and being entertained by that which offends God.

In 2014, Proven Men did a large study on pornography on Christian men. Your manual list some of their findings and findings from other studies. We don’t have time for me to read them all to you, but here are a few tragic highlights.

  1. 97% of Christian men have viewed pornography.

  1. 78% viewed porn before turning 16 years old.

  1. 77% of 18-30 year olds view porn at least monthly.

  1. 64% of those married men view porn at least once a month.

  1. 37% look at porn several times a week.

  1. 36% of those ages 18-30 view porn at least daily.

  1. Nearly 1/3 of married, born-again Christian men had sex with someone else while married.

  1. 32% of 18-30 year olds think they are addicted to porn

  1. 28% viewed porn before turning 12 years old.

  1. Barna Research, in their study, The Porn Phenomenon, found that more than 1/2 of 12–17-year-olds, 3/4 of 18-24 year-olds, and over 60% of 25-50 year-olds seek porn.

  1. Everyone surveyed, regardless of age, thought it is worse to not recycle than look at porn.

  1. Over 40% of males, age 13-24, who claim to be Christ-followers use porn regularly.

  1. Only 5% of young adults and 10% of Christian teens think viewing porn is bad.

  1. 62% of Christian teens have received nude images via texting or other digital venues. 40% say they have sent them.

  1. 21% of youth pastors and 14% of pastors admit they currently struggle with using porn.

  1. Since the introduction of internet porn, erectile dysfunction in men under forty increased dramatically.

  1. Many pornified young men are moving toward isolation and self-sex, resulting in sexlessness and porn-induced erectile dysfunction (PIED).

  1. Married couples with one spouse watching porn are 2-3 times more likely to divorce in the first two years of marriage than porn-free couples.

Porn, like abortion (though less stigmatized), is also rarely addressed in the church. Porn use is higher in the younger age groups, those more likely to experience pregnancy outside of marriage.

Pornography is a huge part of the culture of death. Without the availability of abortion, sex-trafficking, and porn would be majorly hampered.

Furthermore, the effects on the ability of especially men to experience true relational intimacy are disastrous to our society.
