Most of the church is silent about certain topics – those that affect many of us but are taboo in the church setting. Often, these topics are political issues also, which keeps us from talking about how they affect us on a personal level. The political factor also makes pastors think that they can’t talk about these things. Get EQUIPPED starts a new kind of conversation that us allows us to get real and admit that these issues don’t just affect other people. It’s about us too, and our family members and friends. It’s not about judgment, but about learning what God has to say about it all. Jesus did not come into the world to condemn it, so why do so many people who struggle with these taboo issues feel condemned by the church? There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus! And that is where we begin. For God so LOVED the world that He sent His only Son that whoever believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life! We learn how God sees us, our bodies, our relationships, and our choices. And we learn why what He thinks matters. We talk about how we’ve made a huge mess of things and that the church has a choice in how she responds. It’s a win-win for everyone!

Course requirements

A desire to change the culture of the church is required.

Intended audience

Age 12 through adult. For Session 2, young people age 12-17 should be separated into boys and girls. The remaining Sessions, 1, and 3-9 should be with everyone together for both adults and youth. The discussion times for the youth age group can be done with the females and males at separate tables if that is more acceptable to the facilitators, depending on the maturity of the individuals in the group. Adults should have mixed groups if at all possible for the most productive conversations.
